The beginning...

Pooncakes.  After twenty-seven years of rarely hearing my first name, I've learned to embrace any sort of nickname given to me.  So it only made sense that my friends affectionately dubbed my cupcakes as pooncakes...and who am I to stray?  Yes, there are definitely some interesting (and gross) definitions if you urban dictionary it, which I strongly suggest you do not.  Nevertheless, here we are!  I have high aspirations to make this baking/cooking blog a household name like my inspirations and favorites: 101 Cookbooks, Not Without Salt, David Lebovitz, etc.  Realistically, I'm hoping at least friends and family will take the time to read it whenever possible.

So without further ado, welcome!  And sorry to disappoint but I have nothing of any culinary value to put in this first post.  I'm impatiently waiting for a memory card for my brand-spanking new Nikon D5100 to get in from Amazon.  Oh, you fancy huh?  You better believe it!  If there is one person in my life who has contributed to my love of baking, my interest in food photography (please note: total beginner), and this blog, it is my big brother Andrew.  He surprised me with my KitchenAid mixer almost four years ago for Christmas and most recently purchased my Nikon for a birthday/graduation present.  Talk about a lucky little sis - thanks Andrew!

I'm hoping to get a post in once a week.  Expect to see some of my favorite recipes as I bake, cook, and attempt to photograph my food adventures.  I'll also be playing around with the look of the blog so don't be surprised if it is completely different from your last visit.  That being said, welcome again and enjoy!
