About

Welcome to pooncakes!

I'm what you call a "feeder" - if you stop by my apartment and something is in the oven, be prepared to go home with a tupperware full of it.  If you can't stop by, then this blog is my way of bringing food to you.  I plan on compiling my favorite recipes to share with you, including anything I've learned to help create them.

Since I received my KitchenAid as a Christmas present a few years back, I've been teaching myself how to bake.  I started out, interestingly enough, as an associate scientist for a pharmaceutical company and realized how similar assay protocols (nerd alert) are to recipes.  I've since then discovered how experience and "feel" actually plays a big role and I've come a long way since my first batch of sugar cookies.  Baking has remained a hobby I have to fit in around my full-time position in a research institution.  I'm also coming off of a long hiatus as I've been devoting my time to a part-time master's program.  I've since finished my classwork and starting this blog is my way of reclaiming my life.

One of my favorite things to do is cook and bake for my friends.  You'll probably see many of their names thrown around in the posts.  I'm lucky to have a wonderful set of roommates who put up with my culinary escapades that tend to take-over the entire kitchen (I really try to use every bowl we own).  I also managed to land in Boston, MA with a ridiculous amount of friends that graduated Cornell University with me.  Many more are scattered throughout the US - I hope this blog will convince them to come visit and let me feed them!

I welcome your comments, feedback, and suggestions!  Thank you so much for visiting.
